Movement
Push a direction to walk; hold Sprint/tilt the stick fully to run. The character auto-faces the direction you're moving — there's no separate "turn" control on foot.
Camera
Third-person auto-follow camera, always settling in behind whatever you're controlling. Swipe the screen (or turn your phone with 🧭 motion look enabled) to look around freely; it eases back behind you once you let go.

Interaction
Walk up to a parked car until "PRESS E TO ENTER" appears, then press E (or tap ENTER on mobile). Exiting places you safely beside the vehicle. The same key/button works on mission beacons — a prompt appears whenever you're close enough to act.
Basic Gameplay
MAVERICK X is an open-world sandbox — explore the city on foot or by car. There's no fixed objective yet; check the minimap in the top-left corner to get your bearings as you roam.
How to Enter / Exit Vehicles
Walk close to any parked car until a prompt appears, then press E (desktop) or tap the ENTER button (mobile). While driving, press E / tap EXIT to get out — you'll step out safely beside the car. Crashing hard enough will damage the vehicle; at 100% damage it stalls out and won't drive until you find another one.
How to Interact with NPCs
Pedestrians walk their own routes around the city and will react if you get close or bump into them. Full conversations and NPC interactions are planned for a future update.
How Traffic Works
Most vehicles on the road drive themselves — sedans, sports coupes, SUVs, pickups, taxis, and motorcycles, each with their own look. They cruise between intersections, occasionally pull over mid-block to idle for a while, then pull back out and keep going. Walk up to any vehicle, AI-driven or parked, and press E to get in — hijacking a moving AI vehicle works the same as entering a parked one, and it'll pick up driving itself again right from wherever you leave it.
Beyond the City
The city's own north-south road keeps going well past the last block — follow it north and you'll cross open water on a railed bridge, then thread through a gap in a ring of mountains into a small valley village: scattered cottages, a general store or two, and a fenced farm with a barn, grazing cows and sheep, and a few chickens — almost fully enclosed by peaks on every side except the way you came in. Neither the water crossing nor the village has AI traffic or missions, but it's fully drivable and walkable.
How Missions Work
Gold beacons around the city mark available missions — walk up to one and press E (or tap INTERACT on mobile) to accept it. Once accepted, a blue beacon marks your objective; the tracker in the top-right shows the mission title, an arrow, and your distance to it. Reach the objective to auto-complete a "reach" mission, or press E/tap INTERACT there to deliver, pick up, or hand in an item. Completing a mission pays out in-game money, shown top-right, and is remembered even after a reload.
How Shops Work
Every shop building has its own shopkeeper standing in the doorway, selling goods themed to that specific store — apparel boutiques sell costumes, diners and grocers sell real food, pharmacies sell energizing pills, electronics stores sell gadgets, jewelers sell bling, and bookstores/hardware stores sell collectibles. Each storefront has its own proper name and sign. Walk up to a doorway until "PRESS E — BROWSE [STORE NAME]" appears, then press E (or tap SHOP on mobile) to open its stock.
Your hunger meter (top-right) slowly drains over time; buying food from a diner or grocer, or eating supplies from your inventory, actually eats it — the character stops and takes a bite on screen — and brings hunger back up. Let it run low and you'll start moving noticeably slower; let it hit zero and your health starts draining until you eat something. Collect food, water and medical supplies out in the city and use them from the inventory tab in the settings menu. Costumes and jewelry recolor your outfit/accessories instantly; pharmacy and electronics items give a temporary jump or minimap-range boost. Purchases cost in-game money and are remembered after a reload.
How Fighting Works
Press F (or tap the 👊 button on mobile) to throw a punch at whoever's directly in front of you. Pedestrians fight back — they turn, chase you down, and throw their own punches for as long as they've still got fight left in them. A finishing hit actually knocks them off their feet; they lie on the ground for a few seconds before getting up and running off for good. Your health bar (top-right) drops when you're hit; get knocked out and you'll respawn at full health back at the start. It's a street scuffle, not a weapon fight — nobody's armed and nobody stays down permanently.
