Pause the run or mute sound at any time.
Fly the phoenix through the gap between each pair of pillars without touching them or the top/bottom edges of the screen. Each pillar you clear is worth one point. The run ends the moment you collide with something — unless you're holding a shield or an ember key.
As your score rises, the run moves through named story chapters — starting with The Fall and continuing through The Ember, The Struggle, The Reckoning, The Rise, and beyond. Each chapter shift changes the color of the sky and comes with a short line from Ash, the Keeper.
Both pillar speed and how often pillars spawn increase in small steps roughly every 10 points, then level off at a fixed maximum pace so later runs stay challenging without becoming unfair. Emergency squeeze events layer short, unpredictable spikes on top of that steady curve.
You score one point per pillar cleared. Every point becomes one coin toward your wardrobe balance when the run ends, and crossing a multiple of 100 points mid-run grants an instant 150-coin bonus. Coins unlock phoenix skins, hats, and tattoos — never purchased, always earned.
Everything you need to know before your first drive.
Move on foot, or drive while in a vehicle.
Hold to sprint.
Jump.
Enter/exit a vehicle, interact with a mission marker, or browse a shop.
On mobile, an on-screen joystick handles movement and an optional gyroscope mode lets you look around by tilting your device.
MAVERICK X is an open world — there's no single win condition. Explore the city on foot or by vehicle, take on missions from map markers, buy from shops, and fight when you need to.
Press E near a vehicle to get in or out. While driving, a speedometer and damage meter appear on the HUD — crashes visibly add up on the damage meter over time. On foot, you start with fists only; attacking chains into a combo with a stronger finishing hit.
Look for mission markers around the city and press E to interact — the active mission's title tracks on screen. Shop vendor NPCs let you buy items, including food that restores hunger.
Keep an eye on your hunger meter — it drains over time, and running out starts draining your health until you eat again. Temporary buffs for speed, jump height, and radar range can also appear during play.
